Rotating Extras: Fridge One Month, Oven the Next

That Cleaning Girl · Weekly & Bi-Weekly Maid Service

A regular visit covers the rooms you use every day. The big jobs — inside the oven, inside the fridge, baseboards, blinds — are extras. If you want the full list of what a regular visit includes, see What a Recurring Cleaning Visit Covers, Room by Room. This guide is about a simple trick a lot of our clients use: rotating those extras through their visits.

Instead of scheduling one huge deep clean every few months, you add one extra to each visit. Over time, the whole house stays deep-clean fresh without any single visit running long.

Why rotate instead of doing it all at once?

Doing every extra on the same day turns a regular visit into a marathon. It takes longer, it costs more that day and it is a lot of disruption. Rotating spreads that out.

There is also a practical benefit. When the inside of the oven gets cleaned every few months instead of once a year, it never gets to that baked-on, smoky stage. Same for the fridge, the blinds and the baseboards. Smaller, more frequent jobs are easier than big rescue jobs.

And it is easier on your schedule. A regular visit with one extra still fits in a normal window, so you are not blocking off most of a day or working from home just to let a big crew in. The house quietly gets deeper attention a piece at a time, and you barely notice it happening — other than the oven no longer smoking when you preheat it.

The extras you can rotate

These are the add-ons most people rotate through their schedule:

  • Inside the fridge: shelves and drawers wiped out, spills and sticky spots removed.
  • Inside the oven: racks and interior scrubbed of grease and baked-on drips.
  • Interior windows: glass cleaned on the inside, along with sills and tracks.
  • Baseboards: wiped down throughout the house.
  • Inside cabinets: emptied shelves wiped, crumbs and dust removed.
  • Blinds: slats dusted or wiped.
  • Walls and doors: fingerprints, scuffs and smudges cleaned.
  • Laundry and linens: a load washed and folded, or beds changed with fresh sheets.
  • Dishes: the sink cleared so you come home to an empty counter.

A sample rotation

Here is a simple rotation that works well for a family on a bi-weekly schedule:

  • Visit 1: inside the fridge.
  • Visit 2: baseboards.
  • Visit 3: inside the oven.
  • Visit 4: blinds.
  • Visit 5: interior windows.
  • Visit 6: walls and doors in the high-traffic areas.

After six visits, roughly three months, every major extra has been done once. Then the rotation starts again. If you are on a weekly schedule, you can space them out more; if you are monthly, you might pick two extras per visit or only rotate the ones that matter most.

Timing extras with the seasons

North Texas gives you some natural cues for when to schedule certain extras:

  • Spring: interior windows and blinds after oak and pine pollen season coats everything yellow.
  • Summer: baseboards and floors when kids and pets are tracking in more dirt and grass.
  • Fall: the oven before Thanksgiving and holiday baking.
  • Winter: inside the fridge before the holidays and again after, when leftovers have come and gone. Blinds and fans during cedar season, too.
Tip: Clean out the fridge yourself the night before a fridge extra — toss old leftovers and expired condiments. Your cleaner can then spend the time actually cleaning shelves instead of sorting food.

How to set it up

You do not need a complicated plan. Tell us which extras you want and roughly how often, and we will keep track of the rotation in your notes. You can also just ask for an extra on a specific visit, like the oven before Thanksgiving or the fridge before a big party.

When you request a quote, mention any extras you are interested in. Each one adds time to the visit it is attached to, so it helps us give an accurate price.

You can change the rotation whenever you like. If the baseboards still look great but the blinds are already dusty again, swap them. If you have company coming for the holidays, move the interior windows up. The rotation is there to make life easier, not to lock you into a list.

Extras that do not need rotating

Some extras are better as part of every visit if you want them:

  • Changing linens: if you leave fresh sheets out, it is easy to make it a standard part of each clean.
  • Dishes: families who want to come home to an empty sink often add this every time.
  • Laundry: a load washed and folded can be part of a weekly visit for busy households.

Those are the ones that pile up daily, so they make the most sense as regular add-ons instead of occasional rotations.
