What Affects the Price of a Recurring Maid Service

That Cleaning Girl · Weekly & Bi-Weekly Maid Service

If you have decided recurring cleaning might be worth it, the next question is what it will cost. If you are still on the fence, read Is a Maid Service Worth It? An Honest Look first. This guide explains the things that affect the price of a recurring maid service, so you know what goes into your quote.

We do not post one-size prices, because every home is different. But the factors are easy to understand.

Home size

The bigger the home, the more there is to clean. Square footage matters, but it is not the only thing. A large, open home with few rooms can be quicker to clean than a smaller home with lots of rooms, stairs and tight spaces.

The type of flooring plays a part too. A house with mostly tile and hardwood needs mopping throughout, while a house with lots of carpet is mostly vacuuming. Neither is better or worse; they just take different amounts of time.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Bedrooms and bathrooms are the two biggest factors in most quotes. Bathrooms especially, because they take the most detail work — toilets, tubs, showers, sinks, mirrors and floors, all scrubbed and shined. A home with four bathrooms takes noticeably longer than a home with two, even if the square footage is similar.

That is why our quote form asks for bedrooms and bathrooms first. It is the quickest way to get a good starting estimate.

How often you book

Frequency changes the work. A weekly visit in a home that was cleaned seven days ago is quicker than a monthly visit in a home that has gone four weeks. That is why the per-visit price usually depends on your schedule:

  • Weekly visits tend to be shorter, because there is less buildup each time.
  • Bi-weekly visits are the most common middle ground.
  • Every three weeks or monthly visits usually take longer, because more has built up.

Over a month, more frequent service costs more in total. But each visit is often more efficient.

If you are torn between two schedules, ask for a quote on both. Seeing the per-visit and per-month numbers side by side makes the choice a lot easier, and it often shows that the more frequent option is closer than you would expect.

The condition of the house

How clean the home is to start with makes a big difference. A house that has been professionally cleaned recently needs less work than one with months of buildup. That is why recurring service starts with a deep clean — it gets the house to a clean baseline so regular visits can maintain it.

Things that add time include:

  • Heavy soap scum or hard water buildup in showers.
  • Greasy kitchen cabinets and range hoods.
  • Lots of clutter that needs to be moved.
  • Construction dust in a new build or after a remodel.

Pets and kids

Pets and kids add to the cleaning, and that is completely normal. We clean homes with toddlers, teenagers, big dogs and indoor cats every week. More pet hair, more paw prints, more fingerprints on glass and more crumbs under the table all take extra time. Multiple shedding pets in particular can add to a regular visit. Be upfront about pets and kids when you request a quote so the price fits your real home.

Extras

Extras add time to the visit they are attached to. Common extras include:

  • Inside the oven.
  • Inside the fridge.
  • Interior windows.
  • Baseboards.
  • Inside cabinets.
  • Blinds.
  • Laundry.
  • Changing linens.
  • Dishes.
  • Walls and doors.

Many clients rotate extras through their visits so no single visit runs long.

Tip: Mention the extras you want on your quote form, even if you only want them occasionally. It helps us give you a price that matches what you actually need.

Some homes have special needs that affect the time a visit takes: natural stone that needs a specific product, a large number of glass surfaces, a two-story home with lots of stairs or a home office with lots of surfaces. None of these are a problem. They just help shape an accurate quote.

How to get an accurate quote

The best way to get an accurate price is to be specific when you fill out the quote form:

  • Number of bedrooms and bathrooms.
  • Approximate size of the home.
  • How often you want cleaning.
  • Pets and how many.
  • Any extras you are interested in.
  • Anything unusual about the home.

We reply with a price, usually the same day. Larger homes or homes with special conditions may need a quick look first, so we can give a price that is fair and accurate.

If your needs change later — a new pet, a new baby, a different schedule or a regular extra — just let us know. Your price can be updated to match the home you have now, not the one you had when you started.
