Using Your Own Products With a Maid Service

That Cleaning Girl · Weekly & Bi-Weekly Maid Service

Once your first month settles in — covered in Your First Month of Recurring Cleaning: What to Expect — a lot of people start thinking about the details. One of the most common questions: does the cleaner bring their own supplies, or should I leave mine out? This guide covers how supplies work and when you might want your cleaner to use your products instead.

We bring our own supplies

The short answer: you do not need to buy anything. Your cleaner brings their own supplies and equipment to every visit — cleaners, cloths, scrub brushes, mops and a vacuum. You do not have to leave anything out or restock anything.

This is easier for you, and it means your cleaner always has the right tool for the job, whether that is tackling hard water on shower glass or degreasing a stovetop.

It also means nobody is digging through your cabinets looking for a sponge, and you never come home to find your favorite spray bottle empty. The supplies arrive with your cleaner and leave with your cleaner, and your under-sink cabinet stays exactly how you left it.

When to ask us to use your products

Even though we bring supplies, we are happy to use your preferred products. Good reasons to ask:

  • Natural stone counters or floors. Granite, marble, travertine and similar surfaces can need a stone-safe cleaner.
  • Hardwood floors. Some finishes call for a specific wood cleaner, and many flooring brands recommend their own.
  • Scent sensitivities. If strong scents bother you or someone at home, an unscented or gentle product is a better choice.
  • Allergies or skin sensitivities. If certain ingredients cause trouble, let us know what to avoid.
  • A product you just love. If you have a favorite all-purpose spray or the one that makes the house smell like home, we can use it.
  • Pet considerations. If you prefer a particular product around your pets, tell us.

How to set it up

If you want your cleaner to use your products, it is easy:

  • Tell us which products and which surfaces when you request your quote or before your first visit. It goes into your notes.
  • Keep the products in one spot — under the kitchen sink or in a labeled bin — so your cleaner can find them.
  • Label anything that is only for a specific surface, like "for the marble only."
  • Let us know when you run low, or keep a backup on hand.
Tip: Put your preferred products in a small bin with a note on top. Your cleaner can grab it at the start of each visit, and nothing gets mixed up.

Surfaces that need special care

Some materials in North Texas homes need a little extra attention:

  • Natural stone: acidic cleaners like vinegar can etch marble and travertine. Stick to stone-safe products.
  • Hardwood: too much water can damage wood floors. A damp mop and the right cleaner are best.
  • Stainless steel: a dedicated stainless cleaner removes fingerprints without streaking.
  • Glass shower doors: hard water spots respond best to the right product and regular cleaning.
  • Quartz: generally durable, but harsh chemicals can dull the finish over time.

If you are not sure what your surfaces are or what they need, ask. We can help figure it out.

This matters a lot in the new-build neighborhoods around Waxahachie, Midlothian and Red Oak, where homes often come with quartz counters, luxury vinyl plank floors and big frameless shower glass. Each of those surfaces has its own best product, and a little care early on keeps them looking new for years.

Supplies you might keep for between visits

Even with a regular cleaner, a few basics at home help you keep up between visits:

  • A squeegee for each shower.
  • Microfiber cloths in the kitchen and bathrooms.
  • An all-purpose spray for quick wipe-downs.
  • Disinfecting wipes for fast bathroom touch-ups.
  • A cordless vacuum for crumbs and pet hair.

These are for your quick daily habits, not for prepping before your cleaner comes.

Do you need to provide a vacuum? No. Your cleaner brings one. That said, if you have a specific vacuum for a delicate rug or a special floor type, you can ask us to use it. Same goes for any specialty tool, like a steam mop you prefer on your tile.

Eco-conscious preferences

Some people prefer simple, plant-based or fragrance-free cleaners. If that matters to you, let us know your preference, or leave the products you want us to use. We are happy to work with whatever you choose for your home.

When products run out

If you supply your own products and they are running low, your cleaner can leave you a quick note. That way you can restock before the next visit. If they run out mid-clean, your cleaner will use a suitable product from their own supplies and let you know.
