Cleaning day should be predictable. Once your pets are planned for — covered in Pets and Your Maid Service: How to Make Cleaning Day Easy on Everyone — the day itself follows a simple pattern. This guide walks through it, starting with the text you get when your cleaner is on the way.
Why we send a text
Nobody likes a surprise knock at the door, and nobody wants to wonder whether the cleaner is still coming. So before your cleaner arrives, you get a text letting you know they are on the way.
That text does a few useful things:
- If you are home, it gives you a heads-up to get the dog settled or finish your call.
- If you are not home, it lets you know the visit is happening as planned.
- If you need to disarm an alarm remotely or open a smart lock, it is your cue to do it.
- If something came up, it gives you a chance to let us know right away.
Before the text: what you can do
A few minutes the night before makes cleaning day go better. Nothing involved:
- Pick up toys, clothes and shoes from the floors.
- Clear off counters and bathroom vanities.
- Load the dishwasher or stack dishes in the sink.
- Put away anything valuable or fragile you would rather not have handled.
- Leave a note if you have any requests for that visit.
That is it. You do not need to pre-clean. That is our job.
The reason for the pick-up is simple: your cleaner is there to clean, and every minute spent moving piles of laundry or toy bins is a minute not spent on the shower or the floors. A clear surface gets cleaned properly. A cluttered one gets cleaned around. Ten minutes from you the night before means a noticeably better clean the next day.
When the cleaner arrives
Your cleaner lets themselves in using your entry notes, or you open the door if you are home. They bring their own supplies and equipment, so you do not need to leave anything out. If you have a product you prefer — a particular floor cleaner or a stone-safe spray for your counters — they will use yours.
If you are home, you are welcome to go about your day. You do not need to supervise or stay in one spot. Most clients who work from home just close the office door and carry on.
During the clean
Your cleaner works through the room-by-room checklist, usually top to bottom and back to front so dust falls before the floors are done. Bathrooms and kitchen get the most detail. Any extras for that visit — the fridge, the oven, baseboards — get worked in along the way.
If something comes up during the clean, like a spill they noticed or something that looks broken, your cleaner will let you know.
How long the visit takes depends on your home, your schedule and whether any extras are on the list that day. Weekly visits in a well-kept house tend to be quicker. Monthly visits, or visits with an oven or fridge extra, run longer. After a few visits you will have a good sense of the usual window, which helps if you like to plan errands or a lunch out around it.
When the clean is finished
Before leaving, your cleaner does a quick walk-through to make sure nothing got missed. Then they lock up the way your notes say: doors locked, garage closed, alarm set, lights off or on, pets where they should be.
You will come home to a house that looks and smells clean. If anything seems off — a missed spot, a room that did not get done — just let us know. Feedback after the first few visits is especially useful for getting your clean exactly right.
Paying after the visit
Payment is online with a card on file, so there is nothing to leave on the counter and nothing to remember. Your card is charged for the visit, and you never have to write a check or hunt for cash.
When things change
Sometimes a visit runs a little late because of traffic on I-35E or a previous home that took longer. The on-the-way text helps here too, because you know when your cleaner is actually heading over. If you need to change the time or skip a visit, just let us know as early as you can.
Weather can play a part too. A spring storm that floods a few roads or an ice day in February can shift the schedule. When that happens, we will reach out and work out a new time, so you are never left wondering whether anyone is coming.
